He works alongside the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to assist in its supervised release program for sexually violent persons and with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections in the treatment and supervision of their highest-risk community-based sex offenders. Mr. Kirkpatrick began his professional ventures with the Washington State Special Commitment Center as a forensic therapist from 2001 to 2007, primarily working with Sexually Violent Predators who were assessed as having pronounced and severe psychopathy. Between 2008 and 2016, he served as the owner of Kirkpatrick & Associates Counseling, where he was a licensed mental health counselor and certified sex offender treatment provider. In his other ventures, Mr. Kirkpatrick was an affiliate sex offender treatment provider at Lang Taylor & Associates from 2004 to 2007. Currently, in his endeavors to work with adolescents who are at risk for sexual behavior problems, Mr. Kirkpatrick developed Disc Golf Play Therapy. This is a strengths-based, experiential approach that uses protective factors rather than risk factors to help children and teenagers increase their emotional regulation, distress tolerance, healthy problemsolving skills and ability to relate to others. Mr. Kirkpatrick remains active as a fellow of the Wisconsin chapter of the Association for the Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse. Additionally, he is a member of the American Counseling Association. Mr. Kirkpatrick also pursued a formal education, culminating in a master’s degree in counseling psychology at Chapman University. In light of his fulfilling career, he has largely attributed his success to his motivation and determination. In the coming years, Mr. Kirkpatrick hopes to engage in more Disc Golf Play Therapy, and he is already an avid and competitive player of the sport. Drawing upon over 20 years of practiced expertise, Marshall Kirkpatrick has cultivated a career of excellence in the fields of mental health care and psychology. Specializing in risk assessment and both mental health evaluation and treatment, he has served as the owner of Kirkpatrick & Associates LLC since 2016.
