After earning a BA in communications broadcast journalism at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, he subsequently achieved a master’s degree in philanthropy and development at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in 1996. In addition to his academic credentials, Mr. Brown has completed several certification programs pertinent to his profession and was the recipient of the AHP Showcase Award in 1995 for the best planned giving program in the United States. Mr. Brown was largely influenced to pursue a career as a philanthropist in the health care industry by his father-in-law, who became a steadfast mentor and served in the same profession for more than 60 years. As part of his dedication to his work, Mr. Brown commits much of his time to international civic work, working to provide shelter and food for communities in Africa. In light of his fulfilling career, Mr. Brown largely attributes his success to the support of his family and colleagues. In accounting for his accomplishments, he is especially proud to have raised over $800 million for charitable causes over the course of his career.
