276 LAW AND LAW ENFORCEMENT From a young age, Mr. Michels desired to help others, and so he naturally gravitated toward a career as an attorney. Prior to entering the field of law, he worked extensively with ministries in the state of Missouri. In light of his fulfilling career, he has largely attributed his success to the support of his team. Likewise, in accounting for his accomplishments, he is particularly proud to have seen many children be properly cared for by their parents thanks to his dedicated work. Now retired, Mr. Michels looks forward to traveling more with his wife of 56 years in the coming years. Richard D. Michels has cultivated a career of excellence in the field of law, with more than four decades of professional experience to his credit. Now recognized as an emeritus attorney, he previously served as an attorney for the state of Louisiana from 1990 to 2018, specializing in paternity and child support enforcement. Prior to serving the state, Mr. Michels was the assistant district attorney for the Calcasieu Parish in Louisiana from 1984 to 1990. At the onset of his career, he was an acting director of legal services for the state from 1981 to 1983. As part of his dedication to his profession, Mr. Michels remains active as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Prior to embarking on his vocational journey, he pursued a formal education, during which time he studied in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts and Rome, Italy. After earning a master’s degree in philosophy and theology in 1963, Mr. Michels subsequently continued his studies at the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University, where he achieved a JD in 1978. Furthermore, he has also been licensed in the states of Kentucky and Louisiana. RICHARD D.
