281 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine LAW AND LAW ENFORCEMENT With over five decades of professional experience to her credit, Arlene Violet is a proven expert in the field of law. For the duration of her career, she has specialized as a leading lawyer in the state of Rhode Island. She primarily managed her own law office for much of her career. Furthermore, in 1984, she became the first female attorney general elected in the United States. During her time in office until 1987, Ms. Violet was well-regarded for her focus on organized crime, environmental issues, victims’ rights and banking reform. Adjacent to her primary vocational endeavors, Ms. Violet was also active as a radio talk show host on WHJJ Radio from 1990 to 2006. She has also remained dedicated to religious service, having served as a nun with Sisters of Mercy. In her other civic-minded endeavors, she continues to participate as a trustee for Roger Williams University. In her creative pursuits, Ms. Violet released “The Family: A Musical Drama About the Mob” in 2011. The musical was subsequently featured by the Trinity Repertory Company in Rhode Island for a month-long run. She also authored two books, including “The Mob and Me” in 2010 and “Convictions: My Journey from the Convent to the Courtroom” in 1988. Prior to beginning her career, Ms. Violet pursued a formal education, beginning with her time at Salve Regina College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy in 1966. She later continued her studies at the Boston College Law School and achieved a JD in 1974. In addition to her academic credentials, Ms. Violet was licensed to practice law by the Rhode Island Bar Association in 1974 and before the Supreme Court of the United States in 1985. In light of her numerous accomplishments, Ms. Violet was inducted into the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame in 1996. In accounting for her achievements, she attributes much of her success to her parents, who provided her with a supportive and enriching upbringing.
