186 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY With over 40 years of professional experience to his credit, Robert William Hermsen has cultivated a career of excellence in the fields of security and military service. From 1996 to 2018, he served as the compliance chief for immigration and customs enforcement, as well as an independent contractor, for the Department of Homeland Security. In these roles, Mr. Hermsen oversaw various daily procedures and helped to establish national detention standards for immigration and detention facilities. Since retiring from professional work in 2018, Mr. Hermsen continues to work with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. He also remains affiliated with the American Correctional Association. Prior to entering the field of national security, he honorably served in the United States Army for 22 years. For his dedicated service, Mr. Hermsen was honored with a Bronze Star for his participation in Operation Desert Storm and a Meritorious Service Medal. Over the course of his military service, Mr. Hermsen also pursued a formal education, attending Indiana University and the University of Maryland and extensively studying public safety, health and security. He initially pursued an interest in the field of finance, having heard stories from his brother, who previously served in Vietnam, of how the payment system for the Army was less than ideal at the time. This ultimately led Mr. Hermsen to his career serving in the Army. In light of his fulfilling career, Mr. Hermsen is especially proud to have been honored and accredited for his performance in the field and to have maintained his positive standards within his industry. He hopes to fully retire in the coming years and looks forward to traveling more in his free time.
