Specializing in emergency medicine and administration, he founded Physicians Premier Emergency Centers, a prominent chain of emergency rooms located throughout the state of Texas, with the original branch being formed in Corpus Christi. Serving at the head of the organization, he maintains his positions as the chief medical officer and as an emergency room medicine physician and board member. In addition to his primary duties, Dr. Schwirtlich continues to serve as a physician for and co-owner of Ally Emergency Medical Centers. Similar to Physicians Premier Emergency Centers, Ally Emergency Centers also offers various medical centers located throughout Texas. Prior to his current roles, he was the emergency room director for the Valley Baptist Health System from 1982 to 1992. Even at the onset of his career, Dr. Schwirtlich found success as a leader in his field, serving as the medical director for the Brownsville Medical Center from 1980 to 1982. Prior to embarking on his vocational journey, Dr. Schwirtlich pursued a formal education, beginning with his time at the University of Texas, where he received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in 1976. He subsequently continued his studies at the Baylor College of Medicine and achieved an MD in 1979. In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Schwirtlich is board certified in emergency medicine. Following his collegiate career, he completed his residency program at Ben Taub Hospital. As part of his ongoing commitment to his profession, Dr. Schwirtlich remains active as a board member of the National Association of Freestanding Emergency Centers and a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Furthermore, he maintains affiliation with the Texas Association of Freestanding Emergency Centers, having previously held a position as a board member for the organization. Well-regarded by his peers for his professional accomplishments, Dr. Schwirtlich was previously honored as Doctor of the Year in 1982 and as Educator of the Year in 1996.
