70 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT With over 40 years of experience, Robert L. Trowers has cultivated a career of excellence as a professional jazz musician. He has served as a jazz studies lecturer at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) since 2004. He has also produced scholarly output, having authored “The Big Band Jazz Education Project: A Case Study” after he was awarded a research grant from NCCU in 2011. Mr. Trowers pursued his own education at The City College of New York, where he earned a BA in Black studies in 1980. He subsequently continued his studies at Mercy College, receiving an MS in educational technology in 2003. Career highlights include playing in the bands of Lionel Hampton, Illinois Jacquet, the Count Basie Orchestra, and the Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestras. He was the last regular trombonist with Randy Weston’s “African Rhythms” Quintet. He recorded two albums as a leader for Concord Jazz, “Synopsis” (1995) and “Point of View” (1997). In June 2020, Mr. Trowers received a U.S. patent for his “Elliptical High Mass Mouthpiece for Brass Musical Instruments.” While he has accomplished much, he is especially proud to have raised his daughter, Sakile. LECTURER IN JAZZ STUDIES North Carolina Central University Durham, NC Leveraging nearly 20 years of professional experience, Ermes Zamperla has cultivated a career of excellence as a seventhgeneration circus horseback rider. He is well-regarded as a preeminent acrobat and performative artist in Sarasota, Florida, delivering spectacular stunts and equestrian trick-riding shows for a myriad of audiences. Originally from Italy, Mr. Zamperla and his family are one of the few that continue the time-honored tradition of artistic horse riding. Specializing in circus bareback riding and Cossack riding, he can often be seen riding his 16-year-old American Quarter Horse cross named Murdock. Over the course of his career, Mr. Zamperla has performed as a part of numerous noteworthy circus acts, including the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey in 2011 and 2015, respectively. Additionally, he offered his talents as a stuntman and horse wrangler for AMC Network Entertainment LLC’s hit series, “The Walking Dead.” Outside of his primary vocation, he also remains active as a civic-minded citizen, volunteering as a riding teacher for children in his community.
