Additionally, his photograph and biography are part of the permanent display of “Black Musicians in the United States” at the Dusable Black History Museum in Chicago. In light of his outstanding feats, he earned first prizes at several international and regional music teacher competitions. He also earned the Mellon Foundation Award from the Mellon Foundation in 2021. Although he has experienced many achievements, he is especially proud of lecturing on Joseph Boulange Chevalier de Saint George. Mr. Pettaway will be doing voiceovers for Pandora on his harpsichord music. Currently, he has been chosen to perform as a pianist with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic. For the 2023-2024 concert season, he is performing as a piano recitalist, offering Rachmaninoff Piano Sonata No. 1 and the Fifteen Sinfonias of J.S. Bach. Supported by over 30 years of experience, Charles H. Pettaway Jr. is recognized as a leader in music education. Since 2012, he has excelled as a professor of music at Lincoln University. Commencing his career as an instructor of piano in 1988, he rose through the ranks to assistant professor of music and associate professor of music until obtaining his current role. Alongside his primary career efforts, he was also the chair of visual and performing arts at Lincoln Memorial University from 2011 to 2018. Since 2004, he has further been recognized as the director of music at Pinn Memorial Baptist Church. Additionally, Mr. Pettaway has taught classes at Temple University, LaSalle University and the Philadelphia Settlement Music School. Mr. Pettaway pursued an education at the Philadelphia Musical Academy, receiving a Bachelor of Music, cum laude, in 1971. He subsequently earned a Master of Music, cum laude, from Temple University in 1976. To supplement his career experience, he has performed at several concerts, including at the Art Museum of Philadelphia in 2003; Villa Walsh Academy and the Crossland Concert Series in 2000; and Southern University, the Church of the Holy Apostles, James United Methodist Church and Radford University in 1999.
