In her other legal and governmental pursuits, Ms. Okafor became the first immigrant and person of color to be elected to the city council of Bangor in 2019, and in 2022, she became the acting director of outreach and community engagement for the Permanent Commission on the Status of Racial, Indigenous and Tribal Populations in the state of Maine. In addition to her primary endeavors as part of her multifaceted career, Ms. Okafor remains active as a member of several pertinent organizations, including the Maine MultiCultural Center and the Bangor Historical Society. She also previously served with the Governor’s Economic Recovery Committee and the Workforce Diversity Sub Committee for the state of Maine. Ms. Okafor preceded her vocational journey by pursuing a formal education, beginning with her time at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in her homeland of Nigeria, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in 2006. She continued her studies at Husson University and achieved a Master of Business Administration in 2022. Well-regarded for her professional accomplishments, Ms. Okafor has been honored with several accolades over the course of her career, including a Pearls of Wisdom Award from the Girl Scouts of Maine and a Community Solidarity Award from Food AND Medicine in 2022. Furthermore, she received Trailblazer Awards in 2018 and 2021. In light of her fulfilling career, she largely attributes her success to her dedicated work ethic and her faith. Looking toward the future, Ms. Okafor intends to publish two books inspired by her own personal experiences, and she hopes to be remembered for her good deeds and the positive precedent she has established in her community.
