190 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY To commemorate his dedicated service, Mr. Walker was honored with a Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service in Vietnam; two Joint Service Commendation Medals for service with NATO in Turkey and American Embassy in Germany; and Meritorious Service Medal for service with the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command. Mr. Walker is especially proud of facilitating the transfer of the Vietnam War records collection to the National Archives of the United States and representing the Department of the Army on the Defense Department’s Records Management Task Force of 1995. He retired from federal civil service, grade GM14, the following year. He attributes his success to the love and support of his wife. He also offers thanks to his military and civilian colleagues with whom he was honored to have served throughout his time on active duty and in civil service. Possessing over 35 years of experience, William A. Walker has cultivated a career of excellence in active military and federal civil service roles. For 20 years, he served on active duty in the U.S. Army, retiring as a major. During that time, he specialized in personnel and executive-level operations in U.S. assignments at Ford Ord, California; Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Sill, Oklahoma; and Washington, DC Overseas postings were with the 4th Armored Division Headquarters in Germany, 123rd Infantry Division headquarters in Vietnam, Southeastern Europe NATO headquarters in Turkey, and Military Assistance Advisory Group, American Embassy, in Germany. As a Department of the Army civil service employee, he worked for the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command, Adjutant General Center and as the archivist of the U.S. Army, Office of the Secretary of the Army. Mr. Walker pursued an education at Temple University, earning a bachelor’s degree in communications and journalism in 1959. In 1979, he completed work in information management at American University. He has remained interested in writing, having authored and edited several books based on his experiences traveling around the world. Mr. Walker published “We Wrote Letters Then” in 2016, “Those Were the Days” in 2018, “Over the Spillway” in 2015, and “Trip to Russia, 1930” in 2017. WILLIAM A.
