At both seminaries, he worked toward a Master of Divinity degree. In 1990, Mr. Atkinson resumed his conservation career, taking a soil conservationist position with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (USDA-BIA), Winnebago Agency, in Nebraska. In 2002, he began working as a resource conservationist for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA–NRCS) in Nebraska, retiring in 2010. Both the NRCS and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) recognized Mr. Atkinson on several occasions for his commitment to the field of conservation. Mr. Atkinson has the desire to minister to people, especially Christians of all denominations – both in the United States and other countries. Prior to his current role, Mr. Atkinson pursued formal education in the field of natural resources. He attended Southern Nazarene University (SNU) and Colorado State University (CSU), earning a Bachelor of Science in wildlife biology from CSU in 1970. In 1976, he completed his Master of Science in the same field from Texas A&M University. Mr. Atkinson began his natural resources career as a wildlife technician for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department from 1973 to 1977. Subsequently, he started working for the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) in 1979 as a soil conservationist and continued in that position in Nebraska until 1983.
