307 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SOCIAL SERVICES AND NONPROFIT With several decades of experience, Joann Boody Frankel has cultivated a career of excellence across several professional fields of interest. Since 2019, she has served as the president of the board of directors of the Lakewood Center for the Arts in Lake Oswego, Oregon, having originally joined the organization in 2005. The center is well known in the community for hosting several educational arts classes, stage performances and gallery exhibits each year. Boasting a lengthy career of civil service, Ms. Frankel previously volunteered for 15 years with Lakewood Center Associates. She has also volunteered for several nonprofit organizations in the United States, Singapore and Indonesia whose goals are directed to making a positive contribution in others’ lives. Additionally, Ms. Frankel managed her own retail and wholesale furniture business in Indonesia from 1991 to 2000. As the owner, she imported and exported furniture pieces to countries such as the United States, England, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Furthermore, she operated within the Bureau of Labor and Industries in Oregon and as a marriage and family counselor for Multnomah County Family Services and the Court of Domestic Relations. Ms. Frankel pursued a formal education at the University of Oregon, where she earned a BS in sociology in 1963. She continued her studies at Portland State University and achieved an MSW in 1969. In addition to her academic credentials, Ms. Frankel maintained her license as a social worker for many years and was affiliated with the Academy of Certified Social Workers, Registry of Clinical Social Workers, American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and National Association for Social Workers. Ms. Frankel formerly served as a writer for the Singapore American Newspaper and the AWA Bamboo Telegraph from 1986 to 1989. She also contributed to the 2002 book, “How to Live with Other People’s Children” by June and William Noble. Well-regarded for her accomplishments, she was honored with the Fortuna Award as an Outstanding Business Partner for the Arts from the Council of Lake Oswego in 2020. Ms. Frankel attributes her success to hard work, her lifelong passion for helping others and the support of her family.
