She also produced 16 stage plays Off-Off-Broadway and Off-Broadway. Furthermore, Dr. Romma is the producing artistic director at The O’Neill Film and Theatrical Foundation Inc., the president of The International Centre for Women Playwrights, and an antisemitism/extremism and foreign policy fellow at Human Rights First. Dr. Romma holds a BFA in film and television and an MFA in drama and theater arts from the Tisch School of Arts at New York University. She attended the Maxim Gorky Literary Institute and subsequently received a PhD in philology. She also earned an LLM in international human rights and racial justice from the Fordham University School of Law. With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Sophia Romma, Esq., is recognized for her prowess in arts and entertainment, international law, human rights and academia. Currently, she serves as the producing artistic director and chief executive officer of The Garden of the Avant-Garde Film and Theatrical Foundation, offering programs in filmmaking, screenwriting, directing and playwriting. The foundation helps emerging writers and artists develop their skills, particularly women in the media industry. Dr. Romma is also an international law and human rights attorney, practicing law in relation to minority, women’s and LGBTQ+ rights. Likewise, she focuses on counterterrorism, antisemitism and extremism, and Holocaust denial matters. She previously taught creative writing, screenwriting and playwriting at the Frederick Douglass Creative Arts Center and the New York Film Academy. Today, she operates in several roles at Touro University, including as an adjunct professor and writing specialist. She is also an assistant director of the school’s Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center.
