Ms. Starrette has participated as a member of several other organizations throughout her career, including the Women’s Economic Club and Detroit Women Writers. Furthermore, she currently maintains affiliation with Mooresville Arts. Well-regarded for her tenure as a multitalented artist, she has been honored with several accolades, including a Most Valuable Performer Award and The Direct Marketing Association Award for Writing Direct Mail. In light of her accomplished career, Ms. Starrette has attributed her success to her determination. Additionally, in accounting for her achievements, she is particularly proud to have found success as a woman in a largely male-dominated printing industry. In the coming years, she looks forward to further serving as a role model for fellow women in their respective fields. Sandi Starrette draws upon over five decades of experience as a masterful artist, musician, writer and teacher. She excels as a freelance fiber and mixed media artist, specializing in crafting unique jewelry and fiber art, such as hooking, knit and crochet, fabric collage and mixed media by using a vast array of materials. She originally began her career as an artist in the late 1960s and is a former owner of The Golden Scarab, a jewelry store. Earlier, she served at Ameritech, where she developed a training course for the sales force to help their understanding of color printing in the Yellow Pages. This led to her inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who in the mid-1990s. Additionally, she has been a singer since her teenage years, and as an adult, sang with the Rackam Symphony Choir and occasionally performed with the Detroit Symphony, through which she participated in a performing tour in Spain. As part of her vocational journey, Ms. Starrette first attended Marist College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in biology, cum laude, in 1983. She subsequently continued her studies at Norwich University and achieved a Master of Arts in creative writing in 1988.
