218 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS Dr. Mhairi G. MacDonald is well regarded for her four decades of dedicated service in the field of medical education. Prior to her retirement, she served as a professor of pediatrics at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, a role she accepted in 1988. She originally joined the institution in 1978 as an assistant professor. On her retirement in 2016, Dr. MacDonald was granted the title of professor emeritus. Throughout her time in the field, Dr. MacDonald specialized in various health care disciplines, such as pediatrics, neonatal intensive care, pharmacology and medical ethics. Having trained in pediatrics in the U.K., she initiated her career in the U.S. in 1974, working as a pediatrics instructor at Johns Hopkins University. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in neonatology at the university between 1974 and 1976. Over the course of her career, Dr. MacDonald has worked at several other noteworthy institutions, including the George Washington University Hospital, Children’s National Hospital and the National Institutes of Health. In 1969, Dr. MacDonald received a degree in medicine and surgery from the Edinburgh University Medical School in Scotland. In addition to achieving her doctoral degree, she completed two research fellowships in fetal-neonatal pharmacology in 1978 and 1983. Ever committed to her profession, Dr. MacDonald remains affiliated with the American Pediatric Society and the Society for Pediatric Research. Dr. MacDonald has contributed papers to numerous professional publications and journals and has published 14 textbooks in her medical field. Recognized for her scholarly and civic-minded dedication, she has been honored with several accolades, including the Hippocrates Award for Excellence in the Field of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine from the American Biographical Institute in 2012.
