Prior to joining Teledyne Technologies, Dr. Wijewarnasuriya served in the United States Army as a scientist for 19 years. During this time, he conducted extensive fieldwork and research pertaining to the dislocation reduction of mercury, cadmium, and telluride material grown on larger area scalable silicon substrates. To commemorate this invaluable research, Dr. Wijewarnasuriya was honored with an award from the Army in 2009, which he received at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Before embarking on his vocational journey, Dr. Wijewarnasuriya cultivated a formal education, originally earning a bachelor’s degree in physics at the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka in 1981. He subsequently continued his studies at the Illinois Institute of Technology and achieved a master’s degree in semiconductor physics in 1984. In conclusion of his collegiate career, Dr. Wijewarnasuriya received a PhD in semiconductor physics from the University of Illinois in Chicago in 1991. Outside of his primary professional endeavors, Dr. Wijewarnasuriya remains active as a civic-minded citizen, participating as a board member for the Society of Photographic Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE). Attributing much of his success to his dedication to his field, he is particularly proud of his work in producing the most sensitive infrared detectors and sensors, which are now utilized by well-known institutions and agencies in the United States. In the coming years, Dr. Wijewarnasuriya looks forward to further improving upon his work. D r.
