The eclipse traveled in a narrow arc from Texas to Maine, and aurora borealis effects could be seen following the flares. Earthquake On April 5, 2024, much of the east coast of the United States experienced a magnitude 4.8 earthquake, with the epicenter marked as Whitehouse Station in New Jersey. Several aftershocks could then be felt in the hours and days following the initial quake. In Remembrance William Anders, an astronaut of the Apollo 8 mission, passed away on June 7, 2024. He notably captured the now-famous “Earthrise” image. The photograph galvanized the environmental protection movement, appearing on posters during the first Earth Day in 1970.
