185 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY Mr. Black accrued considerable experience as a midshipman from 1959 to 1963 during his time in the Belgian Navy and on Naval Blockade of Cuba inspection teams. As a lieutenant, he served in the Commandos Marines Françaises and was the logistics support unit commander for the Caribbean Ready Force. As a captain, he commanded companies in combat. After active duty, he remained dedicated to public service, working with organizations such as the Navy League, Veterans of Foreign Wars, USS Intrepid Association, Knights Templar and the Naval Militia Association. Called back into uniform in 2007, he served as Marine aide, then executive assistant to the Naval Militia Commander and to the president of SUNY Maritime College. He retired in 2015 as a lieutenant colonel. Mr. Black started by pursuing a BS in engineering at Annapolis, then obtained an MA in political science and an MPhil in international relations at Columbia University. He holds certificates in languages, computer science, nuclear weapons, cyber and port security. His publications include books and chapters on business, the EC and education topics. His combat experiences appeared in Shipmate Magazine, and he has developed cases in MIS/IT and business for educational use. Mr. Black holds many honors, including the Amphibious Force Atlantic commendation for humanitarian assistance in Haiti, the Cross of Gallantry with Gold Star for heroic action in the Battle of Hué, a Silver Star Medal for gallantry in action closing Khe Sanh, a New York State Meritorious Service Medal in 2010, and a Navy Award for Group Achievement for the USS New York Commissioning Committee in 2010. An avid fencer, he was Maryland Three-Weapon (Iron Man) and Foil Gold Medal Champions in 1963. He looks forward to continuing naval service support and aiding his fellow combat Marines. Lt. Col. Robert Black’s fulfilling naval service career leveraged six decades of experience in intelligence, combat operations, logistics and security. He specialized in cyber, nuclear, facilities, international and maritime security.
