Likewise, Ms. Lewis has served as the president of the Egale Canada Human Rights Trust since 2015. Impressively, Ms. Lewis spearheaded the first LGBTQ+ shelter and transitional housing project in her city, demonstrating her passion for human rights. Likewise, she was the first woman to circumnavigate Prince Edward Island by kayak and won seven medals from the Canadian National Masters Championship for Kayaking. Furthermore, Ms. Lewis is the author of the 2013 book, “The Question of Identity.” To prepare for her career, Ms. Lewis pursued a formal education at York University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1985. She subsequently attended Western University (formerly the University of Western Ontario) and earned an LLB in 1989. After accruing many years in her industry, Ms. Lewis returned to higher education and obtained an LLM in administrative law from the York University Osgoode Hall Law School in 1999. For her contributions to the practice of law in Canada, and particularly her dedication to the LGBTQ+ community and ensuring access to justice, she was the recipient of the Laura Legge Award in 2020. Ms. Lewis attributes much of her success to her values of hard work and determination. She advises that having a passion for diversity is important, as it provides rich opportunities for others to learn. Furthermore, she credits her innate understanding of individuals as a factor leading to her success, including knowing what her clients need and how she can help them to the best of her ability. In the coming years, Ms. Lewis intends to pass down the firm to deserving hands who will continue her legacy.
