Adjacent to her primary professional endeavors, Ms. Buchanan also remains active as a civic-minded citizen. To wit, she participates on the advisory board for the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the French Heritage Society and 4word. As part of her vocational journey, she previously pursued a formal education, ultimately achieving a Bachelor of Science in mathematics, magna cum laude, at Vanderbilt University in 1980. To commemorate her achievements, Ms. Buchanan was honored by the Harpeth Hall School in 2023. In light of her fulfilling career, she has largely attributed her success to her commitment and passion for her work, as well as her extensive knowledge in the field. With more than 35 years of professional experience to her credit, Lucy Matthews Buchanan has cultivated a career of excellence in the arts industry. Specializing in business development and consulting, she has served as the chief development consultant at the National Museum of Women in the Arts since 2013. Throughout her tenure with the institution, she has overseen and managed numerous philanthropic initiatives aimed at improving and highlighting their historic art exhibitions. Furthermore, since 2007, Ms. Buchanan has maintained her position as the owner of LMB Consulting, her own independent consulting enterprise. Ms. Buchanan similarly excelled as the director of development at the Edith O’Donnell Institute of Art History from 2015 to 2018. Likewise, she was an art consultant at Susan Swartz Studios LLC from 2015 to 2017 and a consultant for the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at the University of California Davis from 2013 to 2017.
