Well-regarded for his accomplishments in the field, he has also been honored with several accolades over the course of his career, including the Spirit of Wood County Award in 1990. He was also named Citizen of the Year in North Baltimore, Ohio, in 2015. In 2022, he was celebrated for his 50 years on the North Baltimore Public Library Board of Trustees. He continues in 2023 as a board member. In light of his fulfilling career, Dr. Wolfe has largely attributed his success to his passion for teaching, having always yearned to become an educator from an early age. Additionally, in accounting for his achievements, he is particularly proud to have been recognized as a valued teacher by his colleagues and students. Furthermore, he is grateful to have earned recognition as a distinguished teaching professor, a rare title in his field. With more than four decades of professional experience to his credit, Dr. Ralph Haven Wolfe is a proven leader in the field of education. Throughout his career, he specialized in teaching English, writing, 19th century romantic poetry and film studies. Prior to his retirement, he excelled as a professor at Bowling Green State University from 1967 to 1998. Since departing from the institution, he has maintained his status as a distinguished professor emeritus. Dr. Wolfe additionally taught students as an assistant professor at Indiana State University from 1962 to 1967 and at Monmouth College between 1961 and 1962. Prior to embarking on his vocational journey, Dr. Wolfe served in the United States Army between 1952 and 1954. He also cultivated his higher education at Bowling Green State University, where he achieved both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in English. He ultimately achieved a PhD at Indiana University, having completed his dissertation on the work of William Wordsworth, a 19th century English poet. Dr. Wolfe later taught at The Wordsworth Conference Foundation in England for two years. Ever committed to his profession, Dr. Wolfe remains active as a board member of the library in his hometown of North Baltimore, Ohio.
