Prior to her current appointment, Ms. Barrier excelled as the director of the northwestern satellite office at The Science House of North Carolina State University from 2000 to 2022, where she specialized in curriculum creation, teacher mentoring and science lab safety. At the onset of her career, Ms. Barrier operated as a chemist and fiberglass resin specialist at Southeastern Adhesives Company from 1988 to 1991. She subsequently became an educator in 1992, with her first teaching role as a chemistry instructor at the Stokes County Schools, where she worked until 1993. She held a similar position at the Caldwell County Schools from 1993 to 1998. As part of her vocational journey, Ms. Barrier also pursued her own higher education, ultimately achieving an MA in educational media and instructional technology at Appalachian State University in 2005. Ever committed to her profession, Ms. Barrier has also been counted as a member of several organizations throughout her time in the field. To wit, she served for nine years on the board of the North Carolina Science Leadership Association (NCSLA), including a term as president from 2013 to 2016. She maintains her membership within the group today. Furthermore, she remains affiliated with the North Carolina Science Teachers Association and the American Chemical Society. To commemorate her achievements, Ms. Barrier has been honored with several accolades, including multiple awards from North Carolina State University, Rotary International and schools for whom she worked. Most recently, she received the Michael C. Jackson Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Science Education Leadership in North Carolina from NCSLA in 2019. In light of her fulfilling career, she has largely attributed her success to her dedicated work ethic and motivation to accept new challenges. With over three decades of professional experience to her credit, Regina Morrison Barrier has cultivated a career of excellence in the field of academic administration.
