93 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Dr. Jean R. Starkey has cultivated a career of excellence in the field of education, with over five decades of professional experience to her credit. Throughout her time in the field, she has largely specialized in cancer pathobiology. Since 1984, she has served as an associate research professor of microbiology at Montana State University. Dr. Starkey originally began her career in 1972, working at Washington State University as a research associate of veterinary pathology and microbiology. During the early stages of her career, Dr. Starkey continued operating at Washington State University in several other key academic roles. From 1974 to 1984, she worked as an assistant professor of veterinary pathology and microbiology, in addition to taking on a role as an assistant professor of genetics and cell biology in 1978. To commemorate her professional achievements, Dr. Starkey has been honored with several accolades, including being named a Faculty Colleague of the Year and earning the Letters and Sciences Award for Excellence as a Mentor in 2006. As part of her vocational journey, Dr. Starkey also pursued her own formal education, achieving a DVM at the University of Glasgow in 1968 and a PhD in pathology at the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. In addition to her academic credentials, she completed two postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania, including one in equine orthopedics and another in tandem with the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Starkey has additionally dedicated herself to civic advocacy, having worked with several charitable research causes throughout her career. In this regard, she has aided organizations such as the American Cancer Society, the United States Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. In accounting for her accomplishments, Dr. Starkey is particularly proud to have guided numerous doctorate students throughout her time in the field. DR. JEAN R.
