In his own academic pursuits, Dr. Stavropoulos began his collegiate career at Yale University, where he earned a BS in molecular biophysics and biochemistry, summa cum laude, in 1990. He subsequently achieved an MD at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1994. In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Stavropoulos completed an advanced endoscopy fellowship at the NewYorkPresbyterian Hospital in 2002. To commemorate his achievements, Dr. Stavropoulos has been honored with numerous accolades throughout his career, including being named a Top Doctor by New York Magazine, as part of Vox Media LLC, and Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. Likewise, in accounting for his accomplishments, he is especially proud of being the first doctor to conduct a POEM procedure in the United States in 2009. Dr. Stavros Stavropoulos has cultivated a fulfilling career as a leader in the health care industry. Specializing in gastroenterology, he has served as the chief of endoscopy at the Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, Georgia, since 2022. Additionally, he is the institution’s program director for advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy and endoscopic surgery. As part of his duties in the field, Dr. Stavropoulos manages various medical cases on a daily basis, largely pertaining to endoscopies, colonoscopies and peroral endoscopy myotomy (POEM) procedures, in addition to training new apprentices and physicians. Prior to his current appointments, Dr. Stavropoulos was the chief of endoscopy and the director of programs in advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy for NYU Langone Health from 2007 to 2021. Furthermore, in his endeavors as an educator, he served as an adjunct professor of clinical medicine at Columbia University from 2009 to 2019 and an adjunct clinical professor of medicine at Temple University between 2015 and 2016.
