Ms. Collins’ legal and corporate careers are distinguished in her representation of 244,000 annuitants in the bankruptcy of First Executive Holdings in Los Angeles. As co-chair of the Unsecured Creditors Committee, she was instrumental in drafting the reorganization plan accepted by the Court. She became the vice chair of First Lincoln Holdings in New York and First Delaware Life Insurance Company. Furthermore, she founded the first wireless internet company in Houston, Texas, in 1999. Before becoming an attorney in 1987, Ms. Collins successfully taught math, securities and commodities for 20 years. As a humanitarian, she took great joy in sponsoring a girls’ fastpitch softball team — Team Texas — which resulted in college scholarships for team members. She ultimately donated the Marie E. Collins Softball Practice Facility building to The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). She also served on the UTSA Board of Development and the board of directors for Houston Cancer Research for 12 years. Ms. Collins is excited to be helping sculptor Gary Lee Price establish the Statue of Responsibility in Utah, standing at the same height as the Statue of Liberty in New York. She is also writing a book, “It Is Never Too Late,” offering hope to those who feel they are “too old” to achieve new goals and help others. Ms. Collins earned a BS in math and physics at the University of Houston, an MEd at Sam Houston State University, and a JD at South Texas College of Law. She has received numerous awards and plaques from the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA) for her dedication and service. She is a director emeritus for TTLA. Hailing from a long, multifaceted career in education, legal counsel and entrepreneurship, Marie E. Collins was recently named as a brand ambassador for Hydroponics Nepal. Her messages will be lip-synched in over 25 languages.
