In her leadership position, Dr. Turner prioritized high-quality patient care and medical education. She also worked with other medical businesses in the state of Iowa, such as the Genesis Medical Center in Davenport and the Mercy Cancer Center in Des Moines. Adjacent to her primary professional endeavors, Dr. Turner also maintained her dedication to civic advocacy. To this end, in 2022, she was elected as the board president of the League of Women Voters during the organization’s 55th National Convention. As a leader within the organization, she advocated for the preservation of democracy, particularly pertaining to voting rights. Dr. Turner originally joined the group in 2016 as a member of several of its committees. Dr. Turner achieved her MD at the University of Iowa in 1978 before subsequently completing her residency in obstetrics-gynecology at the aforementioned university in 1983. Likewise, she completed a gynecologic oncology fellowship at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Turner also held a JD from Drake University, which she earned in 2007, and she was a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist as recognized by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology Inc. Well-regarded for her accomplishments in the field, Dr. Turner was honored with numerous accolades over the course of her career, including the Louise Noun Visionary Women of the Year Award from the Young Women's Resource Center in Des Moines in 2018. Additionally, she was inducted into the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame in 2013. Furthermore, Dr. Turner was particularly proud to have received the Certificate for Compassionate Care from the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare. With over several decades of professional experience to her credit, the late Dr. Deborah Ann Turner was a proven leader in the fields of medicine and community service.
