SINGERMAN, MD, FACS FOUNDER, RETINA ASSOCIATES OF CLEVELAND CLINICAL PROFESSOR OF OPHTHALMOLOGY, CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY AND BASCOM PALMER EYE INSTITUTE Cleveland, OH Dr. Lawrence J. Singerman is a leading ophthalmologist specializing in the treatment of retinal diseases. He is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and the Wayne State University School of Medicine. His internship and residency were completed at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, where he served as chief resident and received the Ulmer Prize for Outstanding Research in Ophthalmology. He went on to complete retinal training at the Wilmer Eye Institute of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine under the tutelage of Dr. Arnall Patz. Dr. Singerman is a clinical professor of ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University and Bascom Plamer Eye Institute. In 1974, Dr. Singerman returned home to Cleveland, and he founded Retina Associates of Cleveland. This has grown to become the largest retina practice in Ohio with a team of 16 retina specialists, five physician assistants, five clinical trial coordinators and 230 employees in 13 offices. Dr. Singerman’s clinical, academic and research contributions are staggering. He has been an investigator in over 200 multicenter clinical research trials, mostly as a principal investigator. He has given more than 600 presentations nationally and internationally and has authored over 400 publications. Committed to education, he has been a teacher and mentor, giving his time to nurture ophthalmology residents and fellows, other physicians, medical students and research professionals. In 1977, Dr. Singerman founded the Macula Society, an international association of leading investigators and clinicians in the field of retinal diseases and has been re-elected as executive secretary continuously since then. He has been the medical director of The Retina Vascular Foundation since 1981. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to supporting research and education pertaining to retinal diseases in the public and medical sectors. Dr. Singerman’s remarkable contributions to the field of ophthalmology are reflected in the countless awards and honors he has received. He is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievements Award from the American Academy of HEALTH AND WELLNESS
