327 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine TRANSPORTATION Richard E. Kolsch is bolstered by over 30 years of professional experience in the fields of engineering and transportation. Now retired, he most recently excelled as a senior engineer and geotechnical geologist for the National Railroad Passenger Corporation from 2001 until his retirement in 2011. Prior to accepting these roles, he served in a similar capacity as a senior geotechnical engineer for the Consolidated Rail Corporation from 1979 to 2000. Earlier in his career, Mr. Kolsch attended Villanova University, from which he received a Bachelor of Science in geology in 1967. Subsequently, he enlisted in the United States Army, rising to the rank of captain until his honorable discharge in 1971. Over the course of his successful career, Mr. Kolsch has attributed much of his success to his military service. During the time of his service, he notes that he learned several methodologies by which to succeed in a myriad of areas, which he leveraged to advance himself forward in his professional career. Likewise, he credits the education that he received at Villanova University. Among the many highlights of his career, Mr. Kolsch is particularly proud of participating in the stabilization of Iraq’s northeast corridor. Furthermore, he is gratified by his experience in working for the Consolidated Rail Corporation for 20 years, during which time he worked on various landslide facilities, repairing slopes and embankment failures. Mr. Kolsch also says that, after his army enlistment, he worked for eight years for a construction company, where he and his team constructed blue routes and interstates throughout the states of West Virginia and Kentucky. Mr. Kolsch lives by the motto, “We have done so much for so long, with no little, that now we can do anything with nothing and no time at all.” Married to his late wife, Joanne, for 49 years, he has two daughters, Erica and Annalise.
