He subsequently continued his studies at his alma mater and achieved a master’s degree in engineering in 1978, while he also earned a secondary master’s degree in business administration, management and operations at The George Washington University School of Engineering & Applied Science. To commemorate his achievements in the field, Mr. Owens has been honored with many accolades, including the Thomas A. Edison Legacy Award and the inaugural Owen Young Award from Public Utilities Fortnightly. In accounting for his accomplishments, he is particularly proud to have participated in efforts to restore power for citizens in Puerto Rico following Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. Likewise, he has assisted FEMA and the industry in rapidly recovering electricity services for over 10 million customers following Superstorm Sandy. Mr. Owens attributes his success to his family and positive upbringing. Drawing upon five decades of professional experience, David Kenneth Owens is a proven expert in the field of electrical engineering. Specializing in public policies pertaining to clean and renewable energy technologies, he has served as the chief executive officer of Da’Vision & Strategies since 2017. In his leadership position, he focuses on grid modernization, storm restoration and recovery, and other projects involving new and evolving technology. Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Owens excelled as the vice chairman of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority from 2019 to 2022. Mr. Owens also previously served as the executive vice president of the Edison Electric Institute from 1992 to 2017. He originally joined the company in 1980 as a manager, and during his extensive tenure with the organization, he also held positions as vice president and senior vice president. At the onset of his career, he worked at the Securities and Exchange Commission from 1974 to 1980, initially beginning as an engineer and later becoming a chief engineer. Ever committed to his industry, Mr. Owens remains affiliated with the American Association of Blacks in Energy.
