208 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS In the early years of his life, Dr. Giron immigrated to the United States from Cuba as part of the Operación Peter Pan program. Later on, while pursuing his undergraduate studies, he was encouraged to enter the field of medicine by his mentor, Dr. Joseph Rossi, a physician on staff at the Student Health Center at the Yale University campus. Dr. Rossi served as a dedicated motivator and symbol of inspiration for Dr. Giron during his studies, thereby leading him to pursue medicine as a career. Coupled with his own passion for serving others, Dr. Giron has naturally excelled in the industry. In the coming years, he would like to continue partnering with patients and advocating on behalf of medical personnel for heightened health care standards across the country. Supported by over 45 years of practiced expertise in the field of health care, Dr. Jose A. Giron specializes in the treatment and diagnosis of infectious diseases. Serving as an infectious disease specialist at Sunshine Health Specialty Care, as part of the Orlando Infectious Disease Center, since 2001, Dr. Giron has likewise been affiliated as a clinical associate professor at the Florida State University College of Medicine for many years. Earlier in his career, he worked in conjunction with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where he participated in the research and treatment of HIV. Notably, Dr. Giron collaborated on the original HIV antibody test, which was developed by Gallo Lab, as well as co-authored the first HIV antibody testing system that was published and circulated in 1985. To prepare for his esteemed career, he pursued a formal education, having received a Bachelor of Science in physics from Yale University in 1970 and an MD from Harvard Medical School in 1975.
