Bel Air, MD With five decades of professional experience to his credit, Augustus F. Brown has cultivated a career of excellence in the field of law. Since 1986, he has served as the president and principal attorney of Brown, Brown & Young, P.A. The firm remains a prominent staple in the state of Maryland, with offices in both Hartford and Cecil Counties, having originally been founded by Mr. Brown’s grandfather in 1901, when it was formerly known as Brown, Brown & Lanahan. Today, Mr. Brown and his fellow attorneys offer specialized legal services in various fields, including accident law, wills and estates, criminal defense, business and real estate law, and mediation and litigation. Born into a family of legal professionals, Mr. Brown naturally gravitated towards his career in the field of law, despite his prior efforts to become a journalist. To wit, his father, grandfather and uncle all previously served as esteemed attorneys at Brown, Brown & Young for many years. After earning his law degree, Mr. Brown subsequently joined his family’s firm in 1974 as an associate attorney. Since the onset of his legal career, he has spent many years representing clients in both the state and federal courts, mainly tackling casework pertaining to auto injuries, defective products, highway construction crashes and workers’ compensation. In addition to his time spent in the courtroom, Mr. Brown has privately arbitrated as part of Augustus Brown Alternative Dispute Resolution since 2009. He also remains active in the field of law academia. Between 2013 and 2015, he taught classes as a faculty member of the Keenan Trial Institute (formerly Keenan Ball College). Likewise, since 2013, he has also served the school as a co-dean. Mr. Brown is also a former faculty member of the National College of Advocacy, as part of the American Association for Justice, where he worked from 1987 to 2010. In his other scholarly endeavors, Mr. Brown was an instructor on behalf of the Maryland State Bar Association Inc. for several years. Furthermore, he has contributed numerous articles to professional law journals throughout his time in the field. He also chaired the character committee and the Maryland State Board of Law, Second Appellate Circuit Court, for over 25 years.
