Notably, he published his first professional article in 1994. Since 2016, he has committed himself to a wealth of freelance work, often utilizing his talents and skills to write for newspapers, magazines and online publications, as well as posting to his own blog, “Almost Ordained.” Much of his published work pertains to religion, culture and mental health. Mr. Anderson is the author of the 2024 novel, “A Gladiator’s Oath,” published by his own company, Almost Ordained Media, LLC. He has also authored the 2019 book, “Dark Nights of the Soul: Reflections on Faith and the Depressed Brain,” a collection of essays on his experiences living with clinical depression and how religion both help and hurt his recovery. That book won the nonfiction category for the Self-Published Ebook Award from Writer’s Digest, as part of Active Interest Media, in 2019. He regards achieving this accolade as one of the highlights of his vocational journey. Prior to his recent creative endeavors, Mr. Anderson excelled as a teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL) at Troy University in 2008 and Interactive College of Technology from 2001 to 2007. In his academic endeavors, Mr. Anderson achieved a Bachelor of Science in religious studies from Randolph-Macon College in 1989. He earned two master’s degrees from Duke University, a Master of Theological Studies (MTS) in 1993 and a Master of Theology (ThM) in 1996. Additionally, he earned a Master of Library and information Science (MLIS) at the University of South Carolina in 2011. In light of his fulfilling career, Mr. Anderson largely attributes his success to his persistence and desire to always be writing something new. Likewise, he is grateful for the constant support of his wife, parents and sister.
