Byer has cultivated a fulfilling career as a multifaceted professional. Specializing in human resources and business finance, he has served as the director and owner of Byer Tax Service, his company based in Elmont, New York, for over 20 years. Prior to his current appointment, he served as an administrative officer for the Bronx Veterans Affairs Medical Center for several years. In his earlier endeavors, Mr. Byer excelled as a program director of the USAID (United States Agency for International Development) training program for the Caribbean at the Barbados Institute of Management and Productivity from 1984 to 1988. At the onset of his career, he honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1977. Over the course of his military service, Mr. Byer primarily operated as a human resource manager. Prior to exiting his service, he achieved the rank of senior master sergeant. As part of his vocational journey, Mr. Byer also pursued a formal education. To this end, he achieved a master’s degree in human resources at Brooklyn College in 1983 and a postgraduate degree in executive programs and international management at Columbia University in 1986. Additionally, he maintains his affiliation with several pertinent organizations, including the National Federation of Federal Employees, the Air Force Sergeants Association and the National Association of Uniformed Service. To commemorate his achievements, Mr. Byer has been honored with several accolades, including an Air Force Commendation Medal for Outstanding Service and a citation from Michaelle Solages of the New York State Assembly. He has largely attributed his success to his determination and drive to always do his best, as well as his preparedness and education. Likewise, in accounting for his accomplishments, Mr. Byer is particularly proud of his military service, which allowed him to propel himself into a rewarding career in the fields of human resources and taxation.
