83 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION With more than five decades of professional experience to his credit, Dr. Seth Woodard Norton is a proven expert in the field of education. Specializing in business, industrial organization and financial economics, he has served as the Carl R. Hendrickson Chair in Business at Wheaton College since 2020. Having originally joined the institution as an associate professor of business and economics in 1995, Dr. Norton has excelled as a full-time professor at the college since 2014. In addition to overseeing his department, Dr. Norton primarily guides students in courses pertaining to corporate finance and business strategy. He also remains well-versed in many other related topics, such as microeconomics and macroeconomics, capital markets, and American government and politics. In addition to Wheaton College, Dr. Norton has also taught at Illinois State University, the Illinois Institute of Technology, the University of Michigan, Washington University and Triton College. Before embarking on his vocational journey in 1970, Dr. Norton cultivated his own higher education, originally earning a BA in history at Northwestern University in 1969. He subsequently continued his studies throughout the early stages of his career, ultimately achieving a PhD in economics and finance at the University of Chicago in 1982. Dr. Norton also holds an MA in public policy and administration from the University of Wisconsin and an MBA in finance and industrial relations from the University of Chicago. Adjacent to his primary duties, Dr. Norton has remained active as a civic-minded citizen. He previously served as the head wrestling coach at Wheaton College, and he is a former political volunteer. He continues to participate in charitable activities at his local church. Well-regarded for his scholarly output as well, he authored the article “Religion and Educational Attainment in the United States,” which was published by the International Journal of Education and Human Development in 2016. To commemorate his achievements, Dr. Norton has been honored with numerous accolades, including the Burlington Northern Foundation Award from Washington University.
