From Niger alone, he has collected 100 tons of dinosaur fossils and 100 human burials dating back before the development of the pyramids. In 2000, Dr. Sereno joined the National Geographic Society as an explorer, and he has written several stories in their flagship magazine. To engage a wide public audience, Dr. Sereno has authored several children’s books and has been the subject of 15 documentary films on his work worldwide. His civic engagement includes founding nonprofit organizations and institutions devoted to encouraging science careers among teens with few opportunities (Scitopia Chicago) and to the preservation of Niger’s wealth of ancient heritage (NigerHeritage). Dr. Sereno grew up in suburban Chicago, went to college at Northern Illinois University, and earned a PhD in paleontology at Columbia University and the American Museum of Natural History in New York. His accolades include recognition among People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People, Esquire’s 100 Best People in the World, and The Century Club from Newsweek. In 2009, he received a Presidential Award for science mentorship from former President Barack Obama, and in 2012, he earned the National AfterSchool Champions Award from the AfterSchool Alliance. For his scholarly research, he won the University Medal for Excellence from Columbia University. Dr. Sereno attributes his success to the unflinching support of his parents during the early stages of his vocational journey and to his innate drive to explore, discover and leave the world a better place. Looking to the future, he hopes to instill similar ideals in those he meets, especially children, around the world. Drawing on 35 years of research and field exploration around the globe, Dr. Paul C. Sereno is a leader in the fields of paleontology and archaeology. In 1987, he joined the faculty at the University of Chicago, where, as a professor, he teaches anatomy, evolution and other subjects and runs his own fossil lab. Having PAUL C.
