554 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine Prior to the onset of his career, Mr. Were studied economics at Makerere University, earning a BA in 1995. Over a decade later, he received a master’s degree in public health leadership from Uganda Christian University in 2009. Looking ahead, he aspires to maintain a pivotal role in empowering nations to execute malaria prevention and management efforts independently. Additionally, he seeks to share his experiences to inspire and motivate others. Mr. Were credits his achievements to his welldefined vision, which enshrines discipline, an understanding of his industry, and a thirst for knowledge that is only outmatched by his desire to impart wisdom and insight to others. He is proud to have served as a lifelong advocate for progress in the workplace, empowering women and other marginalized individuals to achieve their full potential. Mr. Were’s success is rooted in the lessons imparted to him by his parents, both of whom were also educators. Bolstered by more than 20 years of experience in the fields of public and private health care, vector control, technical assistance and marketing, Allan John Were serves as the practice area lead for vector-borne diseases at Management Sciences of Health. Founded in 1985, MSH functions as a global nonprofit advisory organization that provides governments, health organizations and forprofit enterprises with the tools they need to support public health care. As a specialist, Mr. Were leverages a wealth of expertise in dealing with malaria, dengue and other viral diseases transmitted by vectors. Mr. Were previously served as a principal associate at Abt Associates Inc., where he helped plan and implement the president’s Malaria Initiative VectorLink Project in 25 countries. Joining the company in 2009, he would go on to lead vector control activities throughout Latin America and the Caribbean as part of the Zika AIRS Project. Prior to this period, he worked with the United States Agency for International Development in his native home of Uganda to establish a commercial market for insecticidetreated nets.
