593 Millennium - Seventeenth Edition HOSPITALITY AND LEISURE Leveraging over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Anthony Sanders Jr. is recognized for his exemplary work as the executive chef and co-owner of the Atlanta Breakfast Club, a Southern-style breakfast eatery based in the heart of Midtown Atlanta. Featuring hearty fare and a talented team of chefs and staffers united by their love for food, the establishment is a member of Good Food & Company, a group that operates several other similar businesses throughout Atlanta, including Phoenix Roasters and ABC Chicken & Waffles. Mr. Sanders has served as the group’s founder and coowner since 2011. Outside of his work at the Atlanta Breakfast Club, Mr. Sanders previously worked as the executive chef at the Barteca Restaurant Group between 2014 and 2015 and as a chef at the Buckhead Life Restaurant Group from 2012 to 2014. He initially served in an executive chef capacity at Fifth Group Restaurants for two years, having first begun operating as a dish washer in Apalachicola, Florida, when he was only 13 years old. In the years to come, he would become the youngest chef to work at Andrew’s Downtown, a famous restaurant in Tallahassee, Florida, which closed in 2023 after 50 years of operation. In 2020, Mr. Sanders and City of Refuge, an Atlanta-based religious nonprofit, collaborated to establish a culinary school, which has worked to address a major loss in talent and manpower for the restaurant industry over the past decade. In his role as an instructor, he has developed a 15week curriculum to teach life skills, the processes that govern success in the hospitality industry, and how to advance in the field. In accounting for his success, Mr. Sanders credits his upbringing. While coming of age, he benefited richly from the influence of his mother, who instilled in him the value of remaining humble and working hard to achieve his dreams. Looking ahead, he intends to continue giving back to his industry at large and share his hard-won knowledge with the next generation of culinary experts.
