632 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine LAW AND LAW ENFORCEMENT Joseph A. Lamagna, Esq. is an attorney celebrating 51 years of practice specializing in estate planning, real estate, and small business transactions. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Providence College and intended to apply to law school before putting his plans on hold for military service. After returning to civilian life, he enrolled at Suffolk University Law School on a part-time schedule with the support of his wife, earning a Juris Doctor in 1972. Mr. Lamagna considers his decision to pursue law school as an adult student to be the best choice he has ever made, and he has remained dedicated to maintaining an exacting standard of ethics and using his career to solve social problems. After graduation, Mr. Lamagna was hired by an acquaintance with an established law practice who became a trusted mentor. Under his guidance, he spent several formative years perfecting his craft and exploring a broad range of legal specialties. In 1972, Mr. Lamagna established Lamagna Law Offices, where he continues to advocate for clients and consult with housing authorities and affordable housing developers. His passion for housing equity developed during his 26-year term as commissioner of the Cumberland Housing Authority, which resulted in the creation of an affordable housing entity still in operation today. As a housing advocate, Mr. Lamagna has served on numerous committees, held leadership roles in the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, and presented nationally on topics in affordable and accessible construction. He is a former instructor at Rutgers University, where he taught for 15 years, and he remains active in community advocacy as a member of the board of the Fogarty Center, a nonprofit serving clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
