As a leader in public health counseling and risk prevention, Dr. Jackson is a Fulbright senior scholar, an addictions specialist at the University of Malta, an honorary senior research fellow of the University of Otago School of Medicine and Health Sciences in New Zealand, and a visiting professor to the Pennsylvania Bureau of Education of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. Furthermore, he has received numerous state and national honors for his work. In light of his fulfilling career, Dr. Jackson credits his success to his commitment to his work and dedication to pursuing excellence in all his endeavors, and he hopes to serve as an inspiration to his colleagues. In his retirement, he has been focusing more on writing, with several articles and a book awaiting publication. Dr. Barry L. Jackson, LPC-PA, is a director and professor emeritus in Bloomsburg University’s drug, alcohol and wellness department, where he has served students since 1990. Before pivoting to higher education administration and counseling, he earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and religion at Susquehanna University. He went on to complete a master’s degree in educational organization at Syracuse University and achieved a PhD in counseling and human development at the University of Georgia. Dr. Jackson began working as a psychological counselor at Penn West Edinboro in 1988 and joined Bloomsburg University in 1990 as the director of the Center for Counseling and Human Development. He would remain at Bloomsburg University until his retirement in 2011, serving as a psychological counselor, professor and director of the school’s Drug, Alcohol, and Wellness Network. During his tenure, Dr. Jackson established a clinic offering students preventive health and wellness services aimed at reducing drug, alcohol and tobacco use, as well as high-risk BARRY L.
