Van Valkenburg is a seasoned telecommunications executive and corporate director with over 55 years of expertise in business management and leadership. He obtained an MS in radiation biophysics at the University of Kansas before earning an MBA in finance at Harvard University in 1969. Throughout his career, he has developed a reputation for excellence in building and managing corporate teams and for his work in shaping the history of the cable television industry. Mr. Van Valkenburg worked as a financial analyst before entering the cable television industry in 1973 as a manager and subsequent director and vice president of American Television and Communications Corporation. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he was also the president of Cox Cable Communications, Paragon Communications and MultiVision Corporation, placing him in key positions to guide the early years of cable television marketing, engineering and operations. Mr. Van Valkenburg later became the chief executive officer and chief operating officer of Telewest PLC (now Virgin Media – O2). Since retiring from senior management in 2000, Mr. Van Valkenburg has served as an independent director on the boards of directors of 14 private companies, three publicly traded companies and a member of the boards of trustees of two private colleges. The private corporations included TVN Entertainment Corporation and Melaleuca Inc. Mr. Van Valkenburg has also found the unique opportunity to serve on the board of directors of the Moscow CableCom Corporation. To commemorate his achievements, Mr. Van Valkenburg was recognized as the Alumnus of the Year at Malone University in 1985, was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame in 2014, and received the William Bresnan Ethics in Business Award in 2023. Mr. Van Valkenburg credits his success to his perseverance, precision, and ability to manage diverse teams and develop and maintain trustworthy relationships with clients and colleagues. He draws inspiration from his faith and is an active member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He has been married to Doris (Bowers) Van Valkenburg for over 60 years.
