Moving to Michigan State University in 1999 to pursue a PhD in higher, adult and lifelong education, he also accepted a position in the Department of Student Life, initially as a graduate assistant and eventually becoming an assistant director of student life. John ultimately completed a PhD in 2004. Since 2004, John has served in a variety of roles at Hope College where he works directly with students and families to support students discerning their callings. During his time at Hope, he has been responsible for coordinating the student conduct system, establishing and chairing the Coordinated Assistance, Resource, and Education team, which provides comprehensive, integrated student success services. John tremendously enjoys maintaining relationships with students throughout their time as members of the Hope community and meeting with former students when they return to campus as alumni, and he is honored to be a part of their academic journeys. Mr. Jobson is a prolific writer in his field, having authored multiple books and journal articles on education. His noteworthy works include “150 Years of Student Life at Hope College” from Van Raalte Press in 2019, “Transition to college and identity change: Relationships and associated events,” from Dissertation Abstracts International in 2004, and “The Effects of Fraternity Involvement,” from the Journal of the Indiana University Student Personnel Association in 1998. Looking to the future, Mr. Jobson aims to shift his focus to academic advising so he can continue helping students achieve their goals. In his spare time, he enjoys mountain biking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. F or 26 years, Dr. John E. Jobson has dedicated himself to higher education. At the onset of his vocational journey, he pursued his own studies, earning a BA in political science at Hope College and an MS in education at Indiana UniversityBloomington.
