21 Millennium - Seventeenth Edition ARCHITECTURE, CONSTRUCTION AND REAL ESTATE career has been dedicated to upholding public interest, primarily through assisting communities and individuals with plans and implementation activities, projects and studies, as well as mentoring the next generation of professionals. Mr. Bickel began work as a professional planner at the Montgomery County Planning Commission in 1971, where he advanced through various roles over the course of 13 years, ultimately departing as an associate director in 1984. He then became director of the Strategic Planning Division at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) in Philadelphia. Following this period, in 1990, he served as director of long range planning at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA). After rejoining the DVRPC in 1998 as the director of the Planning Division, he retired in 2014. Mr. Bickel has been involved in many professional organizations and activities at the state and national levels, including serving as a chapter president and committee member the American Planning Association (APA) and a committee member of the Transportation Research Board. He has also participated with the American Institute of Certified Planners, the Planning Accreditation Board and the Urban Land Institute. Additionally, he established an annual scholarship for planning students in Pennsylvania, working with the state APA chapter and seeking to advance students in their goal of becoming professional planners. Mr. Bickel studied sociology at the University of Pittsburgh, earning a BA degree in 1969. Continuing his studies at the institution, he subsequently achieved a master’s degree in urban and regional planning in 1972. In retirement, he hopes to remain active in professional activities and programs, including national and state conferences and meetings, where he may share ideas with his peers. Richard G. Bickel leverages over four decades of expertise in land use, transportation and urban planning, having distinguished himself in various public sector planning positions. He is currently a senior advisor at Econsult, a real estate analysis, economic development and public policy consultation firm. Much of his RICHARD G.
