Among other accomplishments to his credit, he has documented a wide variety of wartime incidents abroad, including the war in Afghanistan and conflicts in the Balkans. In recognition of his work, Mr. Bivera has been featured and personally profiled by PBS’ Jim Lehrer “NewsHour,” C-SPAN’s Washington Journal, and “American Postcards” via NFL Films. He was an education committee member of the White House News Photographers Association and is a current advisor to the DC Public Library Arts Council. He is a founding faculty member of the Red Badge Project, a storytelling program for wounded warriors struggling with posttraumatic stress and traumatic brain injuries. To commemorate his achievements, he was recently honored and inducted into the Defense Information School’s Hall of Fame Class of 2024. Johnny Bivera is well-regarded for over 35 years of contributions to the fields of visual media, photography, storytelling and creative production. Today, he serves as the principal of Visual Media One LLC, a documentary and commercial multimedia production company. Working in a freelance capacity, his work focuses on a wide range of topics, depicting everything from mundane life to battlefields and the halls of power. Now semi-retired, Mr. Bivera has documented news and media events for a variety of clients, through which his work has appeared in major newspapers, magazines and video documentaries, including from HarperCollins Publishers and the National Geographic Society. In addition to his primary endeavors, he serves as the executive director of Shoot Off Visual Media Workshops, facilitating annual workshops for military and civil service photographers.
