530 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS Dr. Rebecca Crawford Metzinger is well-regarded for her 25 years of expertise in cornea treatment and external diseases. Currently active as an associate professor of ophthalmology at the Tulane University School of Medicine, where she first joined the staff in 2001, her research largely centers on corneal transplant rejection, facial nerve regeneration and immunosuppressants. Outside of her work in education, Dr. Metzinger serves as the chief of ophthalmology at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Healthcare System, a provider of health services for veteran patients throughout more than 20 parishes in Louisiana. Dr. Metzinger initially studied biomedical sciences at the University of Michigan, where she earned a BS and an MD in 1992 and 1995, respectively. Following her graduation, she went on to undertake an internship in general surgery at the University of Maryland Medical System, after which she pursued a postdoctoral research fellowship, residency and another fellowship in cornea and external diseases at the Tulane University School of Medicine. Prior to her current endeavors, Dr. Metzinger initially served as a team ophthalmologist for the New Orleans Pelicans. She was also a corneal specialist at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation and an associate in cornea and external diseases at Singer-Brint Custom Vision. Highly acclaimed for her work in academia and the private sector, she was hailed as the New Orleans City Businesswoman of the Year in 2023, 2015 and 2001, with additional accolades from the American Legion and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Well-regarded for her scholarly output and insight into ophthalmology, Dr. Metzinger has taken part in paneled discussions at a number of conferences and symposia, including the Pan American Congress of Ophthalmology and several Annual Multi-Specialty Symposiums. To remain aware of developments in the field, she is also affiliated with the New Orleans Academy of Ophthalmology, the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists and Women in Ophthalmology. Looking toward the future, Dr. Metzinger aspires to continue conducting extensive research in her area of expertise.
