The PM&R residents at the Geisinger Health System honored him with the Pioneer Award for outstanding leadership in establishing a PM&R residency program with a superb teaching program. Furthermore, the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine granted him the Haim Ring Memorial Individual Award for exceptional leadership in hosting international students and promoting international exchange programs. Dr. O’Young’s guiding principle — “Look for the light; then there shall be no darkness” — reflects his optimistic approach to his work. He aims to expand his work internationally in partnership with the United Nations. His mission is to profoundly impact the lives of people with disabilities worldwide, utilizing the UN as a strategic platform for change. For 30 years, Dr. Bryan O’Young has served the public as a physician and educator. Dedicated to healing and helping others since childhood, he followed in the footsteps of his father and brother to become a doctor. He earned a BA in neuroscience from Northwestern University with the highest honors and went on to achieve an MD at the Washington University School of Medicine. Specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) with a focus on chronic pain, Dr. O’Young prides himself on helping patients regain control and enhance their abilities to move forward with their lives. He aims to minimize reliance on medication, identify pain patterns, educate patients on triggering factors and provide effective control strategies. His philosophy of empowering patients allows them to move forward not by allowing pain to define them but by allowing their meaning of life to define them. Extending beyond his clinical practice, Dr. O’Young is a professor of PM&R and a vice chair of education at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. He is also a clinical professor at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and an adjunct clinical professor at Weill Cornell Medical College.
