420 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine FINANCE AND INSURANCE Well-regarded as a property casualty insurance expert, John Edward Seward Jr. previously distinguished himself as the chairman and chief executive officer of Business Risk Services Inc. Having proudly established the insurance company in 1995 in Schererville, Indiana, he managed the business up until his retirement in 2020. Mr. Seward otherwise found success across the span of more than 55 years in multiple roles of high leadership throughout the industry, including with such companies as J&J Underwriting Services Inc., Universal Fire & Casualty Insurance Co., Home and Auto Insurance Company, and the Gambles Insurance Group. He began his career at Guarantee Reserve Life Insurance Co. in 1965. First hired by his mentor Kenneth B. Andre Jr., Mr. Seward was inspired to explore the fields of accounting, finance and insurance more deeply, and he quickly rose to prominence as a result. Following various roles in the industry, he had the opportunity to work directly with Warren Buffett at Home and Auto Insurance for over a decade. As a result of his multifaceted experiences, Mr. Seward was well-positioned to found Business Risk Services Inc., which became a leader in writing workers’ compensation monoline throughout the United States. Graduating from T.F. South High School, where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame and Wall of Fame for accruing eight varsity letters in four different sports, Mr. Seward proceeded to study accounting at Northern Illinois University, earning a BS in 1965. Following this accomplishment, he attained a BS in finance at St. Joseph’s College in 1968. Eminently qualified in his field, he subsequently became a certified insurance counselor, life underwriter, professional insurance agent, property casualty underwriter, and public accountant in the years to follow. Mr. Seward was also recognized as a fellow of the Life Management Institute.
