Long considered a trailblazer within the company, Mr. James is gratified to have introduced a culture change in various operations. Mr. James has otherwise cultivated a prolific career in the insurance industry across North America, beginning his professional journey in Jamaica before migrating to Canada and, eventually, the United States, where he spent two years working at Pan American Life in Louisiana. He initially studied mathematics at the University of the West Indies, earning a BS in 1988. Following this accomplishment, he attained an MBA at Nova Southeastern University in 1997. Ever committed to his profession, he remains active as an associate of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Outside of his professional efforts, Mr. James maintains his passion for philanthropy and education. While living in Canada, he notably served as the president of his local chapter of the Spelling Bee of Canada, eventually leading the national organization for a time. More recently, he has also operated as a board director for Dancing Classrooms of Greater Richmond. There, he assists in the organization’s mission and vision to utilize the art and vocabulary of ballroom dancing to cultivate positive, essential life skills in children, such as teamwork, selfesteem and poise. Mr. James has also spoken before audiences as a member of Toastmasters International, and he was honored with the Distinguished Toastmasters Award for Leadership and Communication Excellence. In the coming years, Mr. James hopes to launch a new foundation, Miracle Now, while also maintaining his dedication to positively impacting the lives of children through philanthropy and effective education. Leveraging over three decades of experience in the actuarial profession, Peter Alfred James serves as a senior actuary at Genworth Financial, an insurance and annuities corporation based in Richmond, Virginia.
