320 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ENTREPRENEURS KETMANEE P. WHITLOCK OWNER Edify Salon Johnson City, TN A seasoned stylist with nearly two decades of experience to her credit, Ketmanee Whitlock opened Edify Salon, a boutique salon, in March 2020. Due to the COVID–19 pandemic, the business launch was shaky. Even in the face of many challenges, the business managed to thrive by welcoming clients in need of gorgeous extensions, relaxation, hair love, and refreshment during a time of stress. More than a salon, Edify Salon is a holistic space committed to making a positive impact on the community. By sharing their wall space with local artists and artisans, Mrs. Whitlock‘s establishment provides the means for others to display their work, in addition to offering shelf space for handmade products. The salon reserves a small commission from the work sold during the artist sessions. The salon team looks forward to donating these funds to local nonprofit organizations, such as domestic violence shelters, the SMILE Foster Closet, and clothing and food support initiatives for the local houseless community. Edify Salon has also set itself apart through its commitment to education. To wit, Mrs. Whitlock and her colleagues train staff members to provide high-quality services and educate their clients about hair care. Additionally, the company is dedicated to protecting the environment and reducing waste, partnering with Green Circle Salons, a recycling service for salons that ensures waste is disposed of responsibly. With the dual roles as a stylist for extensions and color and as a manager focused on staff development, Mrs. Whitlock ensures expertise and dedication to nontoxic products and holistic hair care align to also care for the team in a holistic team environment. As the founder and owner of Edify Salon, she considers her most remarkable accomplishment to be curating a workspace that promotes inclusivity and compassion. To wit, she aims to build a lasting career in the industry and foster a professional and supportive environment where all the stylists can reach their artistic potential. Mrs. Whitlock also teaches her employees business acumen, emotional maturity and how to handle difficult client conversations.
