643 Millennium - Seventeenth Edition LAW AND LAW ENFORCEMENT Likewise, Mr. Scott served at the Ocala Police Department in Ocala, Florida, at the inception of his career, having ascended through the ranks from jailer, dispatcher and patrol officer to road deputy, drug agent, police officer and sheriff’s deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Following his extensive tenure in law enforcement, Mr. Scott was an attorney with the State Attorney’s Office and the Public Defender’s Office. To prepare for his career, Mr. Scott pursued higher education at the University of Central Florida, receiving a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and public administration in 1978. He went on to matriculate at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, earning a master’s degree in criminal justice in 1982. Subsequently, Mr. Scott attended the Samford University Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama, and obtained a JD in 1987. He is admitted to practice law in the state of Florida and before the Florida Federal Middle District Court, Federal Northern District Court, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeal, the United States Supreme Court, the Florida Supreme Court and the Florida District Court of Appeals. Although he has experienced many career achievements, Mr. Scott is particularly gratified by his involvement in an age discrimination class action lawsuit, where he represented over 100 plaintiffs and several defendants. Impressively, the case lasted over a decade with three appeals, including through the United States Supreme Court. He is also proud of participating in over 250 state and federal court trials, including eight first-degree murder cases and prosecuting over 60 appeals in the state and federal appellate courts. J udge Edward L. Scott is a distinguished figure in the field of law, drawing on more than 40 years of professional experience. Since 2007, he has served as a circuit judge for the State of Florida, where he specializes in civil, family and criminal law.
