She notably served on the campaign for the universality and implementation of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Ms. Verpile has worked with PGA since 2015, beginning as a consultant for the organization’s International Law and Human Rights Program. She is the chairperson of the African Affairs Committee of the New York City Bar Association, a member of the American Branch of the International Law Association, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Theta Epsilon Omega Chapter. In the coming years, she hopes to continue working with elected officials across the globe and may consider launching her own bid for office. Melissa M. Verpile’s career in global policy was inspired by her experiences living internationally and her profound desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Born in the United States, she was raised in Haiti and completed her legal education in Paris and New York. She initially earned a license in law, followed by a Master 1 in public law and a Master 2 in public policy and development at Université Paris Descartes in Paris, France. She received a Master of Laws in U.S. and comparative law at the Fordham University School of Law in New York. Melissa M. Verpile currently serves as the director of the Democracy, Gender and Inclusion Program at Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA). As part of her role at PGA, she is proud to help major political actors bridge their differences to craft effective policy and considers her contributions to the initiative to be among her greatest achievements.
